Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long will counselling take?
Sometimes you may just need to “get back on track” so only a few sessions are required and having six sessions then a review is a good place to start. Longer term Counselling would involve exploring your past to see how it affects you today and how you would like to make changes for the future. This will be discussed in your first session and can be adjusted along your journey.
  • How much will it cost?
Initial phone /Teams 15 min - Free Sessions (50 minutes) are £60 Parent Consultations/Review meetings £30 for 30 mins or £60 for 1 hour Any reports or liaising with schools/GPs will be charge at £30/30 mins Payment is to be made 24 hours before the session via BACS
  • How often do I have to come?
Ideally once a week at the same time and day which helps establish the relationship. However I understand life can get in the way sometimes so we can schedule sessions at different times if requested. You may also choose after a period of time that bi weekly works better for you and we can also discuss this. I also offer one off sessions for previous clients.
  • What will happen in the first session?
We will talk about your aims for Counselling and how you are feeling about starting your journey. It's also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. You may not share a lot in the first session and that's ok as it's about building up trust between us and in the relationship.
  • Can I contact you between sessions?
I will only be available to you between sessions for administrative purposes as I am not an emergency or crisis service. If you need urgent support please contact the Samaritans on 116 123, your GP or call 999.
  • What happens when I go on holiday? Will I still be charged
We all need a break from time to time and I will let you know in advance of my planned holidays. You can also do the same with as much notice as possible and there is no fee charged for holiday breaks.
  • What if I don't feel Counselling is working for me?
Counselling doesn't work the same for everyone as you are all unique so if you feel it's not working for you please bring it to the session and we can discuss what is happening for you. Then perhaps move forward to work in a different way or I can signpost you to another service.
  • If I need to cancel a session, will I get my money back?
Sessions are paid for 24 hours in advance and if you cancel a session within 24 hours of your appointment the session will be charged and not refunded.
  • Can I end sessions when I want to?
Yes you can finish sessions whenever you like however it is always good for the Therapeutic process to have a final session so 2 weeks notice of ending is desirable.
  • Can I have Counselling via the internet?
Yes, if you aren't able to come to Tring I offer sessions for Adults via Teams. Children and Couples will be Face to Face
